Collective Mandate for Change
Collective Mandate for Change

What issues are you most concerned about? Our key concerns encompass a wide spectrum of issues for our government. Foremost is the urgent need to address climate change and its potential catastrophic consequences. Simultaneously, we must reform our economic systems to combat growing inequality, secure funding and improvements for vital services like healthcare and education, advocate for a more ethical political system, and ensure social justice, fairness, and environmental sustainability in our society. These multifaceted challenges require immediate and concerted action.

What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? In our ideal society, wisdom, kindness, and respect are paramount, fostering equal access to resources and nurturing individual growth. It’s an ecologically conscious utopia, prioritizing wellbeing and environmental health, promoting regenerative practices, and democratic governance. Education, housing, and healthcare are accessible to all. Social justice, technology for the planet’s benefit, and political accountability are vital. This society rejects exploitative capitalism, values relationships, ensures equality, and promotes genuine wellbeing, all while striving for sustainability and reducing inequality.

What do you want our government to be doing about it? We want our government to transform our systems by prioritising climate action, healthcare, lifelong education, and ethical governance. Political reforms, like proportional representation and citizens’ assemblies, should foster a democratic system valuing human and environmental wellbeing. We must transition to regenerative economies, reduce inequality, combat climate change, nurture kindness, strengthen social welfare and healthcare services, all while promoting sustainability. Active citizen engagement and addressing inequalities are crucial to achieving these changes.

The Citizens’ Mandate for Change

In the UK, Labour wants change.

What changes do you want?

The purpose of this project is nothing less than to change our world before it is too late. As Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General of the United Nations said, if we don’t change course, we are doomed. We are locked into our political and economic systems by the 1%. We are the 99% and until now we have not had a shared voice.

The Citizens’ Mandate for Change is a democratic innovation which does something entirely new. It gives us a collective political voice for the first time by asking us these three central questions of change:

What are the main issues you are concerned about?
What kind of society would you prefer to be living in?
What changes do you want our government to make?

With your support, the Mandate for Change has the potential power to change our dysfunctional political and economic systems.

This website outlines our message of hope in a few short videos. Here, you can cast your personal political Mandate. AI summarises our Mandates to create a Collective Mandate for Change.

The companion book, Saving Our World: Plan B, explains all this in detail. With unusual scope and depth, it lays bare the underlying systemic causes of our biggest problems and maps out our best ways forward to a better world for all.

All you need to do is watch the videos, talk with your friends, clarify your thinking, and cast your Mandate for Change. If we can each interest at least three friends in doing the same within three weeks, and they do the same, that’s all it takes. Our Mandate for Change will grow exponentially.

And with social media, it can reach the key tipping point for change within three months. Research shows this threshold is around 25% of the population.

With your participation, we can reach this and make real change happen at the next election…

62 Personal Mandates for Change

What are the main issues you are concerned about? To work from a global agenda that seeks global solutions to our critical issues for people[injustice/inequality] and the planet. To actively work for economic models that reverse exploitation of others and environment. Profit/growth-priority in place of people and common good must be the criterion that directs policy. Education purpose needs to be wholistic and creative, instead of instrumental in reducing humans beings to mere consumers. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? A society that draws energy and purpose from our Kin-dom, rather than Kingdom. This will value relationships above outcomes thus nurturing a spirit of belonging care, kind-ness and common good. Connecting local community with international community in place of competitive exploitation where nation states and driven to agression and possession. And what changes do you want our government to make? First to embody and move towards political environments that value what brings people together in place of weaponising and fomenting promoted difference and division. Changes in commercial law that foster & favour collaboration and co-creation in place isolation and conflict. Rewarding and re-wording educational policy to prioritise nurture creativity and kin-ship instead of consumerist values that create consumerist addictions, 'to have is to be' etc.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? I am most concerned about inequality, homelessness, corruption in high office, terrible social care, cruelty and inhumanity in offices of state and the state of hopelessness that we have reached with everything deteriorating. That genocide can be enacted with impunity and even the unequivocal support of our 'leaders' while protest is banned. That the Earth and its poor are being raped and pillaged for the greed of a few. Police brutality and INJUSTICE. That it is always the poorest and most vulnerable who pay the most. The stupidity of thinking that privilege makes people better than others. No justice, no peace. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? A society in a state of peace and happiness where everyone was equally respected, valued and appreciated. Where everyone contributed according to their abilities and received according to their needs so they could live in a state of modest comfort. Where no money was spent of Armaments because there was no need or desire for them because people had learnt to co-operate and help each other joyfully. Justice and Equality. Everyone could fulfil their potential. Every child would grow up loved because people would be happy, fulfilled and at peace. Good natural food, clean air and pure water. And what changes do you want our government to make? STOP BUYING, SELLING AND PRODUCING WEAPONS. Understand that war can never bring peace and only co-operation can ever work. Work to encourage happy, healthy people whose needs are fulfilled. Stop oppressing the poor and work to fulfil everyone's potential through the best possible education that values everyone's different skills and the work that contributes most to a happy, healthy society such as carers, are recognised and valued rather than people whose incompetence is rewarded merely because they are privileged. Get rid of corruption in public office. Use taxes entirely for the benefit of the people. Respect, compassion and humanity.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? I seek changes to the way this country is led - and I am not talking party politics here. We need to move away from a system where a small privileged elite of super rich people operate in a way resulting in our society being run for their benefit. For example how rich people become donors to a political party and gain access to lucrative contracts. I want much more attention on preserving the natural world. I want there to be much less excessive consumption, resulting in obesity and ill health What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? I want much more investment in public services. I want much better quality management and leadership in organisations. I want much more use of the co-operative movement to run organisations nationally and locally. I want a movement away from excessive consumption. I want people to take more responsibility for their own health and wellbeing. I want much less advertising for products which are harmful to the public health. And what changes do you want our government to make? I want to see reform of the way we govern ourselves, including abolition of the House of Lords, radical reform of the House of Commons and the introduction of proportional representation. I want to see much more priority on protecting and improving the natural world. I want the NHS to be much more proactive about requiring people to take personal responsibility for their health and wellbeing

What are the main issues you are concerned about? It is a very complex interrelated world and all problems interrelate with each other. My concerns have no differential weighting. Most problems concerning me are climate breakdown, rising right wing politics and uncontrolled capitalism. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? I want an education system that is historically and politically unbiased. A free health care system from cradle to grave. A society based on honesty and the truth without the intervention of bias, anger or intolerance. Love should have prominence. And what changes do you want our government to make? Equal concern for all with no extras for wealth, social position. A better education system. Free healthcare that is inclusive and not privatised. A democratic system that is not corrupted by media. Working quickly towards sustainable energy, food production and a less polluted world.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? I am concerned about the future of our planet and what my grandchildren will inherit. We need immediate, effective action on the unfolding climate disaster as well as a commitment to and visible, practical movement towards greater equality within nations and across nations. We need active, engaged citizens whose efforts are supported by government. We need to release creativity and experimentation. We need a spirit of hope. We need a spirit of hope. We need a spirit of hope. We need a spirit of hope. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? I want to live in a society where all have the essentials for a fulfilling life. I want a society that is becoming more equal, in which the NHS and social care are properly funded, where everyone can afford to eat decent food, where everyone has a good home that is properly heated, where the common good is valued above private greed and, above all, where priority is given to addressing the climate crisis. I want to see proportional representation and democratic accountability built into society at a much deeper level. I want to see citizens’ juries set up so broad policy objectives are formulated independently of party politics. And what changes do you want our government to make? The Labour Party needs an ambitious plan for tackling climate change behind which the country can unite, but to do this the country needs to be on a war footing. We need to focus on the long term goal of providing safety and security for UK citizens. This will include working alongside other nations and respecting international law as it develops. Taxation must be reformed in order to draw on our collective wealth and support a green economy. This will inter alia include changing tax subsidised savings rules that affect ISAs and pensions savings accounts so as to release more than £100bn pa for new socially and environmentally necessary investment.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Wealth inequality. Environmental destruction. Climate change. Lack of integrity amongst leaders. Focus on growth as main indicator of ‘success’. Decline in living standards for ordinary people. Decline in public wealth and services of welfare state. Social division. Waste. I've witnessed the environmental crisis grow. Not only does it devour nature’s finite resources, today it also shamelessly devours the living standards of ordinary people. A system of extraction and consumption has become embedded in our culture. Everything and everyone are fair game in the name of growth. The economic system and GDP performance are prioritised over people and their quality of life. The social contract is broken. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? A society that functions like a healthy ecosystem based on social cohesion and a sense of shared values and shared prosperity. Where goods and services are produced and provided for the benefit of the user as a priority. A society that values resources appropriately and produces no waste. A society that supports the wellbeing of each and every citizen by offering them the infrastructure and opportunities with which they can thrive. More equal wealth distribution. Environmental restoration. Social cohesion based on common ground. Integrity from leadership. Public wealth and shared prosperity. Robust welfare state to support the entire population including healthcare and education provision. And what changes do you want our government to make? Close all tax loopholes and tax the wealthy. A democratic society must work for the people who inhabit it. We need radical political reform to a system that listens to and responds to the needs of citizens. I don’t have definitive answers but ideas to suggest… Incorporate citizen’s assemblies into our current political system, or other methods of citizen participation in decision making. Other countries may have good examples to draw from such as Bhutan who focus on Gross National Happiness (GNH) as opposed to Gross Domestic Product, and Switzerland who incorporate direct democracy alongside representative democracy by holding regular referendums on big decisions. Name: Heulyn

What are the main issues you are concerned about? I am mainly concerned about the demise of the health service- difficulty in seeing a GP, and long waiting times, underfunding of local authorities who provide social care services. Under recruitment of teachers, and lack of funding for schools eg playing fields, buildings condition, extra curricular activities, the Arts. Child poverty and the proliferation of food banks. Lack of social housing and high rents for private renting. Environmental issues - use of fossil fuels, poorly insulated houses. Corruption and lying in government. It should be by the people and for the people. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? My ideal society is similar to what we had from 1945 to 1974. Free further education from government subsidies, easy access to health care. Fewer millionaires and billionaires and more taxing of the rich. Utilities run as services for the people and not for profits to be given to shareholders. Lying in government to be against the law. Proportional representation. Easy access to mental health services to keep people out of prison. Decent wages for all working in public service eg doctors, social workers, workers in child care, prison wardens, social care workers. Reduction in crime and more police on the beat in communities. More youth clubs. And what changes do you want our government to make? I would like the government to listen to the concerns of the people and for MP’s to be free to vote according to conscience, not just on party lines. They should answer questions honestly in interviews. They must be accountable. Reform the House of Lords- too many time wasters there. Less vitriol in Commons debates. More honesty and integrity all round. Name: Morag Phillips

What are the main issues you are concerned about? * Divided Society essentially built on party politics and ensuing tribalism as well as compromised mainstream media pushing individuals into imposed silos and labels. * The growth of neoliberalism, extremism and objectivism. * Corporate power and loss of the commons. Leading to the comodification of pretty much everything including: individuality, culture, art, rebellion and government. * Inequality of all kinds especially sexual, education & economic. * Developing True peace: not merely the absence of war but also the presence of justice, equity, and human dignity. Moving beyond military security to include social, economic, and environmental justice. Government should define peace as a dynamic state where individuals and communities thrive. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? * An ecological society which considers national decisions having a global impact. Taking a more Cosmolocal perspective. * Interconnectedness is accepted and developed through open dialogue at the root of community. * Equity and Inclusion need to support community development. * Participative democracy. One without professional polititions or lobbyists but a well trained, resourced and trustworthy civil service to enact the will of the people. * Ultimately I want a federated planet and all that entails. Especially global governance and accountability of power. And what changes do you want our government to make? * Create a more equitable tax system, it must ensure the tax burden aligns with the ability to pay. It needs to be simpler and Transparent. using tax revenues to fund public services that benefit all citizens, particularly lower-income groups. Reduce wealth inequality by taxing large inheritance. * Put true peace (more than an end to war) and individual and community thriving at the top of of any policy development. * Develop concensus as opposed to majority decisions, support systems promoting this such as sociocracy in the decision making process. * Put partnership at the front of all discussion recognising equality in all areas as paramount. * Redefine "work" Name: Rob Thistleton

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Oppression—address institutional oppression, especially racism, ableism, sexism, classism, not only by recognising and actively promoting human rights in our parliaments but by modelling attitudes and actions that completely respect every person and living being. Tackling the economic inequality that is held in place by the above. Environment—take effective action climate and biodiversity. (See "changes" below. Health and wellbeing—make healthcare equally available to all and promote diverse routes to healthier lifestyles. Migration—accept the responsibility we have as an ex-imperial nation and an early industrialiser to look after those we have oppressed. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? My ideal society would be peaceful and cooperative. It would have moved on from capitalism to an economic system more closely based on "from each according to their abilities and to each according to their needs". I would like to see us moving away from current gendering practice—men and women are far more alike than they are different— we would all benefit from seeing ourselves and behaving in less gendered ways. Land use—make land more widely available and accessible to all, and ensure farming and food production is more nature-friendly. And what changes do you want our government to make? Look after our natural environment better by putting more constraints on our exploitation of it. This links to responding much more effectively to the climate crisis, eg. placing constraints on fossil fuel production and use. Address financial inequality—tax the rich and international corporations. Actively resist exploitation of people and nature, at home and abroad.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? I think the most important issue facing our world is obviously the climate change and I feel we should all take it as seriously as we did the covid pandemic. Education is high on my priority list as a lot of solutions to everyday issues with the right education people are more able to help themselves by having the tools to make good choices for themselves and society. Finally my third important issue is health. I have been fortunate to have had good health all my life partly due to my interest in sport and good education about diet. I feel we must try and educate people to eat well. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? I am not nieve enough to dream of va perfectly equal society and realise incentive is a major force for good but would prefer we didn't spend so much time trying to get rich quick assuming this is the route to happiness. It has been shown that the happiest people in the world are the ones who have focussed on gaining self worth often by helping others or achieving worthwhile goals. I feel we have lost respect for each other and often ourselves. The internet is a great tool but I feel social media has not been a force for good. And what changes do you want our government to make? I realise governments cannot necessarily change society but they can stand by their manifestos in most cases. I would like to see more serious investment in renewables and education and less wasted on talking shops like public enquires which achieve very little. To achieve this I would be willing to pay higher taxes. I also think investment in fossil fuels needs to be stopped and bring in carbon taxes so the polluter pays. It is absurd that you can fly to places in Europe cheaper than you can going by train. Maybe introduce a happiness quotient rather than focussing in economic growth when quoting the countries achievements. Name: Nigel Fletcher

What are the main issues you are concerned about? My concerns include that we are losing touch with reality through our over-dependence on social media, and the bad effect on young people. Climate change is already taking us in a negative direction. I'm concerned that we are going to alter the balance of the seas by taking too many fish out and we don't really understand the ongoing effects of all the changes we are making. I'm also concerned about financial inequality planet wide, and that people are not going to make the necessary changes to their own behaviours in time to avoid collapse. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? My ideal society would be fairer, gentler, and kinder. Technology is used to enhance the quality of life for people and the natural world. I would like things to be able to be more magical in the sense of being able to see the beauty in things and an appreciation of the world be are born into. Spiritual beliefs play an important part in how people live their lives. There is no room for war in my ideal society, only peace. People are paid fair wages and there is much greater financial equality worldwide. And what changes do you want our government to make? I want our government to invest more significantly in anything that genuinely helps including sustainable energy, in our shared welfare services, health, education housing, etc. I want the litter in the country cleaned up and the yob culture dealt with more effectively. The government should be changing the negativity of inner city drug cultures and turning those people around to live better and more fulfilling lives. I want the government to stop corruption and remove the loopholes through which the rich avoid paying their share of taxes. I want those with the highest levels of income and wealth to pay significantly more tax to fund welfare services.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? I am concerned about climate Change and would like the government to reinstate 2030 as the date to stop the manufacture of fossil fuel cars and to invest in clean energy. I would also like an inheritance tax for the wealthiest in society so that there is a more even distribution of wealth. I am concerned about the cruel policy on immigration and want the Rwanda bill stopped. I am also concerned about the state of the NHS and would like the NHS to be funded better but not through private companies, through a different payment system like possibly paying for GP appointments. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? My ideal society would be a society where education was valued so that everyone was aware of political complexity and could make informed decisions. I would like a society where people are respected equally and difference acknowledged and reasonable adjustments made. I would like a fairer financial system, better safeguards on the internet, more compassionate policies around immigration, investment in clean energy and a the NHS. So in summary I would like a better educated population who have sensible discussions to make informed voting decisions, good health choices and equal rights for all taking into account difference. And what changes do you want our government to make? As above, I would like the government to reinstate 2030 as the date for stopping the make of fossil fuel cars, to invest in clean energy, to tax inheritance for the very wealthiest in society, to keep the NHS from being privatised and if it needs more funding to think of acceptable ways of doing this which do not prevent the poorest in society from accessing it, to stop the Rwanda bill, to have proportional representation and to invest in stable housing for the most disadvantaged in society.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Climate breakdown is the issue which is affecting humanity globally. Water shortages, crop failures extreme weather events all lead to migration, wars, poverty, famines and human misery. Nature is being destroyed and worsening biodiversity, killing species and harming humans and the planet's chance of recovery Inequality, greed, corporate exploitation, denial and deliberate disregard of the clear evidence. Poisoning of the ecosystem and its cover up also contribute. These are all for obscene profits to a tiny few who are totally self centred and short sighted. They seem unable to think even of their own descendants. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? A far less unequal society so that people are not sick or dying from poverty. Causing poverty is a political choice not an inevitability. Good health and social care for everyone, according to need not income. Free education from infancy to postgraduate. Greening of towns and cities and many more traffic free zones. No more fossil fuel use Massive green energy infrastructure and rapid integration Proper wages to all vital workers who keep society functioning and save lives and no huge bonuses to much less vital CEOs. Nationalisation of life requirements such as water, sewage, energy, transport Proper support for children, disabled people or unemployed people And what changes do you want our government to make? Investing in local authorities so they can carry out their work properly Investing in training all new medical staff, teachers, childcare workers Retrain steel, oil, etc workers for green engineering projects eg, solar, windfarm and vitally, tidal generation as UK is surrounded by dependable tides! Raise all benefits and living wage Make nursery, school, college, university fee free. Set up a national social care service integrated with NHS Build far more energy efficient small/med houses for council housing, not selling Repair/ rebuild disintegrating hospitals and schools Have a proper national integrated transport network Name: Voirrey

What are the main issues you are concerned about? 1. There is a monopoly of power ensuring the vast majority of people are excluded from any meaningful taking part in decisions. 2. The pretence that political opponents’ plans are automatically wrong and must be removed or blocked. 3. The idiocy that the basics of life [food, water, shelter, health] should be allowed to be owned by private individuals or companies. 4. The morally bankrupt position of nations that competition is paramount, when cooperation is essential to safeguard our world. 5. The prime requirement to protect the biosphere from degradation. 6. A massive rise in education to promote rational thought and decision-making by all citizens, rather than dog-whistle politics. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? A society where co-operation and sharing are the norm, a recycling, redistributive, fair, secure, unexploitative, progressive and fulfilling one. Respect for others should be guaranteed. Government should be based on local mandates being enabled and supported and national cooperations be determined by a paradigm that obliges all to promote a healthy planet, stop pollution of all types, restore natural features. No society needs to depend on any religious input, which should be only a personal and private choice, without compulsion. No person to be paid more than the head of state, no company to pay their CEO more than 20 times the lowest-paid worker. No person to avoid tax. And what changes do you want our government to make? Listen to the wisdom of the population, rather than project their own prejudices. A re-education of politicians to be honest, to not endulge in any schemes, lies, crimes, selfish behaviour. Name: William Otto

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Climate change. Funding of the NHS Support for social care Support for other public services Support for clean energy Support for regenerative agriculture What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? A society where support for one’s community and public service comes before the individual. An outward looking country making stronger connections with Europe, welcoming foreigners and using the country’s expertise to support development across the world And what changes do you want our government to make? Increase funding to the NHS. Sort out social care. Phase out fossil fuels. Funding for clean energy, electricity infrastructure development and public transport. Provide universal income. Increase international development fund. Increase taxes on petrol, diesel, aviation fuel, frequent fliers. More progressive taxation so the rich pay more. Scrap the U.K. nuclear deterrent. Reduce defence spending. Ban the sale of arms to foreign countries. Name: John

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Lack of progress in relation to climate change by the biggest economies globally and inequality in the UK, in particular the lack of opportunity for the underprivileged and the wealth held immobile by the wealthy What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? A more fluid society whereby the underprivileged have equal access to the resources of society. Where climate change is addressed as one of the major concerns of our society And what changes do you want our government to make? Climate change to be funded as fully as practicable. That there should be no nuclear energy projects nor should there be any new carbon based energy projects. That the top 10% of wealthy individuals should be taxed on a sliding scale to ensure the underprivileged have equal access to society’s resources Name: Jim Weight

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Promoting pathways to peace, environmental sustainability, and compassion and respect for others. The bigger idea is the ability to think in a more systemic manner, outside of our own personal space. From I to We What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? A society with the human skills for communication across different maps, personal maps, cultural maps, religious maps. There are examples in the world to inspire us. And what changes do you want our government to make? I want the government first to be aware of what I am concerned about and if possible to implement policy changes that are solid. Tax structure changes for sure... Name: Judith Delozier

What are the main issues you are concerned about? The lack of imagination and collaboration between the government, the rest of parliament and external agencies to solve systemic, long term problems which need cross party support and solutions that last longer than one term of parliament. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? A society that is discussing issues and creating solutions using verified facts and data rather than dogma and opinion dressed up as facts. And what changes do you want our government to make? Carry on including others in their decision making and persist with cross party collaboration even if the others continue to be partizan. We need grown up government and so far the mood music is good so we need to see this translated into action. Name: Nick Hindley

What are the main issues you are concerned about? climate change- why don't we have more infrastructure to capture the extra rainfall; reservoirs with turbines to create power; more small homes and green spaces in cities and towns, more houses converted from empty shops; a full review of planning laws, all new houses to have solar panels and more to go on commercial premises in towns and cities - stop solar farms on green spaces, plant the front of buildings, a massive haven for the birds and the bees. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? One that takes more responsibility for itself and its individual surroundings. More care for the community around us. A calm society that is able to look at both sides of an argument, to weigh up the pros and cons of a situation. To have less unrest and more armrest. More smiles, less aggression, more happiness all around. To be a part of a small community of houses, with a green in the centre, somewhere to sit and chat, plant some flowers, as an extra to an allotment. And what changes do you want our government to make? one person can't know everything so maybe politicians should make less assumptions and not be too proud to take more advice on subjects about which they know little. It is wise to see both sides of every discussion before making a decision. Name: Jean

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Greatest concern is the USA military industrial complex and its power over decision making, especially over nuclear weapons and their use against other nations. The USA demonstrated its power by using nuclear weapons against Japanese civilian targets, even though many say the war was essentially over. The reason given has been that such use demonstrated to others, particularly Russia, that the USA was going to dominate the world. True to that, the USA has been seeking total dominance over the entire globe, with little capability or interest in getting along with others - much as it did with slaughter of the Native Americans, its hold over Latin America, etc. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? I would prefer a society where psychopaths and sociopaths were identified, monitored, ridiculed and prevented from ruling nation states, corporations, or other social institutions. Additionally, I would prefer to educate young people and older ones too, about science and philosophy, while avoiding fantasies and illusions that are rampant from superstition, organised religions, and propaganda machines such as advertisers glorifying products or programs. Honesty and truth would be rewarded and respected, rather than "selling" and "promoting" and disguising truths. Those who do lie, disinform, and twist the truth should be identified, ridiculed, and appropriate regarded as aberrant, not acceptable in polite society. And what changes do you want our government to make? Prevent individuals from amassing wealth beyond a reasonable limit of say 20 million dollars by changing tax laws and social customs. Prevent wars by reducing money allocated to military industrial complex corporations and military endeavours. Enhance efforts to build diplomacy, conflict resolution activities, and cross cultural understanding. Force the government to be honest and transparent by law, and by public pressures - including such actions as ridding us of fantasies and illusions - examples, eternal life, walking on water, miracles, and angels flitting about in heaven or sending people to a hell. Treat those who preach superstitions as ridiculous and ban their activities in the interest of public good.

Climate change and phoney off-setting of carbon use, loss of species, destruction of the natural world, unfair and unjust access to good food and water worldwide, inequality of our economic system, poverty, hunger, lack of investment in schools, hospitals, insulation of properties, renewable energies. Pollution by chemicals and plastics. Misinformation and misuse of AI. Deterioration in mental and physical health through unhealthy diets and lifestyles, reliance on mobile phones, wastage of resources, oppressive work practices, misuse of land, built-in obsolescence, loss of contact with nature and natural lifestyles, lack of democracy, economic growth prioritised above the wellbeing of humanity, inability to extracate ourselves from self-destructive systems, future generations' wellbeing. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? Focussed on stopping non-essential carbon use, regenerative farming, circular economies, thriving communities with personal connectedness, compassionate, kind and self-sustaining societies, manufactured goods built to last to reduce wastage and pollution, welcoming to refugees, providing good housing, food, water, education, health care and sustainable transport for all, full employment, less meat production, fewer chemicals used in farming and manufacturing, cultural, musical and artistic aspects of life prioritised, wildlife protected, habitats created, land rewilded. An economic system which prioritises increasing the wellbeing of humanity, not contant economic growth. Democracy which involves everyone. Freedom of information. Wealth re-distributed. Supply chains more local. A voice for children. And what changes do you want our government to make? Ban harmful chemicals, stop allowing intensive meat farms, invest in public transport and subsidise heavily, reward those who have no private motor vehicle, invest in buildings insulation, health, education, sustainable housing, dedicate land to rewilding, grow crops instead of feeding animals for meat, subsidise local food growers, invest in wind, solar and wave power, phase out fossil fuels and nuclear, reward reduced fuel usage. New economic model to benefit all. Carbon reduction, not off-setting. Support local self-sufficiency. Value people and nature. Accessible democracy. Involve children. Name: Penny Nicholson

What are the main issues you are concerned about? The cost of living crisis, social injustice, state of the health service, crisis in education, state of the economy, climate chaos, global conflict, corruption in politics, lack of ethics and morality in society, the focus on growth as opposed to the quality of life, introduction of GM crops, factory farming, soil degradation in modern agriculture, migration, irresponsible uses of natural resources, homelessness, food and fuel poverty, the proliferation of unnecessary data storage, pollution, ignorance about nutrition, a disconnect between food and its sources, lack of eco-friendly design, backtracking on government promises on the environment, lack of support for the arts, lack of disability support. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? I would like to see prosperity without growth, I would like a recognition that small is beautiful. I would like more earth care, more people care and more fair shares in the design of sustainable human settlements. I would like to see ecocide recognised as a crime. I would like to see an end to genocide. I would like my grandchildren to feel that they have a future. I would like to see more investment in reforestation using native deciduous species. I would like to see proper investment in th public water supply and an end to the privatisation of important infrastructure. And what changes do you want our government to make? Take important resources into public ownership and remove the necessity for shareholder profit. Government encouragement for problems that improve quality of life and care for our environment. I would like more funding for health, education, the arts and organic agriculture. I would like to see more food produced in the UK to lessen our reliance on imports. I would like legislation to lower fuel costs to the consumer by restricting shareholder profits. I would like a government commitment to eco-friendly affordable housing. I would like greater investment in the NHS and make more grants for vocational training and degree courses. Name: Rosemary Brown

What are the main issues you are concerned about? I want to see more equality in the world....with less extremes of poverty and excessive wealth; and with fewer countries ravaged by extreme poverty and fewer countries run by an ultra rich elite. I want to see humans live in more harmony with themselves and in more harmony with the natural world. "Exploitation" seems to be the current dominant theme motivating how humans behave - exploitation of other humans and exploitation of the natural world. This is wicked and unsustainable. It needs to be replaced by a theme of care and compassion - of each other and of the natural world What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? My ideal society would have at its heart human beings who are well developed enough to operate from intrinsic values such as care and compassion. Human beings who are mindful of the beauty of the natural world and mindful of the need to spend their time alive well, to help and support others And what changes do you want our government to make? I want to see a radical reform of how the UK is governed.....for example abolition of the House of Lords and radical reform of how the House of Commons works, plus reform of how political parties are financed. I want to see more use of the Co-operative movement to run organisations. I want to see a dramatic reduction in the over consumption and the over commercialisation of our society

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Climate disruption and environmental degradation. Biodiversity reduction. Resource over-consumption. Human over-population. Wealth inequality driven by 1) hyper-capitalism through the commodification of attention and 2) exploitation of the underclass of the west and the global south and east. Political retrenchment and isolationism/protectionism. Economic/financial systems reliant on impenetrable cybernetic (sorry Wiener, Bucky, Stafford Beer) structures and obfuscated electronic data storage and manipulation. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? Equable, co-operative, regional. Supportive, constructive, creative and modest in ambition. Ethical and accountable business practices. Well-being index as metric of progress. Big Data removed from communications. And what changes do you want our government to make? Reforming your Britisher uk state as Federation of non-colonial polities of 5-10m population (Peoples' Republics with written reformable constitution based on large deliberative citizens' assemblies) and re-organising the political system with multi-member constituencies elected through (Single Transferable Vote) PR. Federal State-funded political parties with open policy-making and elective structures. All governments to co-operate and agree limits of growth. Local governments (e.g. UK) to strive for global restraint on unfettered capitalism. Decarbonise and nationalise all utilities and natural monopolies.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Inequality, poverty, the environment, extreme wealth, corruption, the far right, the attack on global human rights, the attack on trans rights, the role of the media in promoting lies and untruths, rule by fear. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? Respect for everybody's basic humanity. Focus on green solutions. Reducing inequality and better standards of living for all. Better state support. More respect and value for public servants. Better balance of work and leisure. More equal parenting rights. Better representation of men in the family and more positive support for men in society. Trans people should feel safer and more respected. Economic fairness for all. And what changes do you want our government to make? In the UK: the green agenda, social reform, restore public services, reduce inequality, democratic reform including the voting system and the house of lords. Name: Andrew Clark

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Continued exploitation of fossil fuels. There is green washing by fossil fuel companies. Poor long term planning and investment in health, care and education What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? Carbon neutral, integrated UK transport policy with less need for individual car journeys. Active government involvement in the ‘free market’. And what changes do you want our government to make? Introduce a wealth tax plus a Robinhood tax on every financial transaction in the city. Tax fossil fuels companies. Recognise that national debt as a % of GDP is out of date since debt in itself is not bad, there has been a sovereign debt for many, many decades. Debt is being used to limit borrowing to invest in Health, education and care. Name: Isky Gordon

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Election processes - we need proportional representation. Climate change - ban production of new plastics, ban new oil and gas fields. Common good - put people before profits, tax the wealthy. 40% taxation on all income above £45000 from whatever source. Take control of and invest in public services - water, energy, transport, infrastructure should all be publicly owned and controlled. Return the NHS to public ownership and control. Stop the wastage of money within it. Reintroduce SENs so that care as well as treatment is provided within hospitals. Ban clinical physicians in surgeries. Ban computer programmes that are not fully tested and clear of bugs. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? A tolerant, peaceful one where acceptance of different opinions, cultures and views are accepted rather than attacked. A non-racist, cosmopolitan society where government seeks to include rather than exclude. A society where everyone's talents are recognised and developed and where all have the respect and opportunity to make the most of their skills. And what changes do you want our government to make? Find a new home to meet where the room promotes cooperation - like the Scottish Parliament and the EU rather than aggression like our current parliament benches do. Ban MPs from having second jobs. Take all public services back into public ownership and invest in them. Fund local authorities properly. Decentralise - local people know what is needed in their area better than a distant centralised government.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Our cultural awareness of belonging to a Living Earth is being eroded, resources are exploited, bringing extreme weather, loss of habitats and dislocated communities. Competition is the driving force, leading to isolation, and stress , undermining personal purpose and contentment. Worth is measured by possessions and money, regardless of well being and is leading to deepening inequality. Wealth and access to resources is in fewer hands leading to dangerous concentrations of power. Social media can be manipulated to generate misinformation as a means of control, increasing fear, distrust and alienation. Outside dictates and control are stifling creativity and diversity, generating hostile and extreme political agendas. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? A society where all citizens have respect for eachother and a sense of dignity and value. Where each can give of their gifts and skills and have access to what they need to enable this. Where the reverence for Earth, our sense of belonging and the sentience of all Life is recognised and honoured. Where all have an effective political voice and agency. Where each individual's creativity and diversity is valued and respected. And what changes do you want our government to make? Policies which give voice to all citizens and safeguard the Earth’s resources. Policies which facilitate circular economies to resource local communities. Policies which promote human capital, health and well being. Activities to nurture relationships between people and with the living world. Initiatives to foster creative arts which celebrate individual integrity, and bring joy and connectivity. Ritual and ceremony which give space and time for inner quiet, a sense of belonging and reverence for all Creation.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? I am most concerned by the UK's reluctance to provide asylum for refugees and asylum seekers who need to escape to this country from persecution, war, famine or any other reason. There is no reason to deny access to the UK based on a migrant's inability to pay, work or contribute profitable skills. Asylum seekers and refugees should be given access to work and training as they are granted entry, in order to afford to live in and contribute to UK society in the manner most wish to. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? I would love to move in a society that values diversity and offers kindness and acceptance to human beings who are fleeing unimaginable circumstances caused by no fault of their own. And what changes do you want our government to make? The government needs to be putting legislation into place to secure rights to asylum for asylum seekers and refugees fleeing situations that make it unsafe for them to stay. This could be war, famine, natural disaster, political or religious persecution, for example. I would also like the government to offer shelter, kindness and aid to anyone arriving in a "small boat" while their circumstances are being determined Name: Jess

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Like most UK citizens I am worried about climate change. Individual action will not solve the problem, and polls show that most citizens want strong government action. At the same time, the public are less keen on government spending on climate change. So, what is needed now? What the government is currently doing is insufficient to avert a crisis. Rather, its actions seem to be directed mostly towards maintaining our present systems and avoiding risks. Only doing that will continue to create the same problems. I am concerned that the government will not have the courage to innovate and take risks in finding a way to keep us alive. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? My ideal society would be one where all citizens can engage actively with the government in defining their future. That government would be creative in forming a clearer vision of a better future and would have the imagination and courage to be innovative in bringing about the changes that we will need to continue as inhabitants of our planet. People would be able to describe that future and could look forward to sharing it with the rest of our world’s people. And what changes do you want our government to make? At COP 26 Sir David Attenborough called on leaders to think of the younger generation and said that ‘we need to rewrite our story to turn this tragedy into a triumph’. As my MP I hope you will be part of writing a new story, and making the changes needed to create a world fit for our children. I offer you a mandate to act on my behalf in urging our government to move from our present inaction, to form a longer-term vision, and to then to implement whatever changes are needed to preserve our place on this planet.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? My main concerns are that, whether or not we know it, we are under a truly existential threat from average global warming of 1.5 degrees Celsius, or more, above pre-industrial global temperatures, and the resulting climate change. Unless we act now to educate and persuade most people to significantly reduce their direct energy usage and carbon footprint, to a degree appropriate to their current lifestyle, we are in serious danger of going beyond tipping points which will produce runaway global warming. In particular, the melting of arctic permafrost, already beginning, is likely to release so much methane that climate change would be almost impossible to control or mitigate. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? My ideal society would be one in which there is greater equality and little needless poverty. A non-populist democracy, with unbiased media, which gives the people a meaningful chance to intelligently discuss and agree solutions to both short-term and long term issues, and thereby to influence and enable politicians and leaders who act for the benefit of the people rather than for vested or narrow interests. A society respectful of, and in harmony with, the natural world. A society where education allows groups to freely follow their religious and spiritual beliefs without feeling the need to impose them on others. And what changes do you want our government to make? The changes I want politicians to make are, generally, to consider their power as being to serve rather than dominate the electorate and therefore to make real efforts to understand their wishes and needs, perhaps through local meetings or Citizens Assemblies, at which they make public commitments to act on those wishes and needs. Specifically, now, to educate both themselves and their electorate on the science and realities of climate change, the realities and effects of income and wealth inequalities, and to try to work out, locally, nationally, and internationally, what changes can reasonably be introduced into the everyday lives of their electorate, to reduce individual carbon footprints, and inequality. Name: Simon Bailey

What are the main issues you are concerned about? My main concerns that I wish you to act on areThat our cultural awareness of belonging to a Living Earth is being eroded , leading to exploitation of its resources, resulting in more extreme weather, loss of habitats and dislocated communities. That competition is accepted as a necessary driving force, leading to isolation, stress and dis-ease, undermining the inner stillness and wholeness which gives personal purpose and contentment. That worth is measured by possessions and money, What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? My ideal society would beWhere all citizens have respect for eachother and a sense of dignity and value. The changes I want you to make Policies which give voice to all citizens and safeguard the Earth’s resources. Policies which facilitate circular economies to resource local communities. Policies which promote human capital, health and well being. Activities to nurture relationships between people and with the living world. Initiatives to foster creative arts which celebrate individual integrity, and bring joy and connectivity .

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Lack of citizen participation in decisions at local and government level Democracy is broken. There is little prospect that a Labour government will bring radical change- so there is a lack of hope. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? Inequalities harm everyone including the top 5% of the population. A society where decisions are focused and based on people not money. Racial injustice is still very present, active anti-racial teachings / education / policies are required. And what changes do you want our government to make? Voting at all levels should be on a proportional representative basis. The house of Lords should be abolishes and a House of Citizens set up The current fiscal rules are out of date and should be replaced by fiscal guidelines. Public sector net worth should be used as an indicator of the economy. Non-confrontational politics harms society and should be replaced by collaborative debate. No one political party has all the answers. Reinvestment in facilities for children / youth / adolescents including libraries is essential including a guaranteed minimum income of a living wage for all 16 - 30 year old. Name: Isky Gordon

What are the main issues you are concerned about? My main concerns that I wish you to act on are the climate crisis, the destruction of the natural world, egregious lobbying by vested interests, financial inequality and the cost of living crisis. All are a by-product of the neoliberal economic system which has created a slow motion doom loop which unless changed will lead to the collapse of society within our lifetime. The stresses of our dysfunctional economic system are causing increasing mental health issues for a large proportion of our population, exacerbated by the continued and intentional decline of all our welfare services. The situation is worse than it has ever been. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? My ideal society would be one based on a more fair and just political and economic system whose main purpose would be to promote the wellbeing of people and the natural world. The political system would be based on proportional representation and a majority of decisions would be made by citizens' assemblies. The corrupting influence of lobbying by vested interests would be forbidden. The economic system would be based on a circular economy and a Green New Deal with increased taxes on carbon consumption, income and wealth for the rich to pay for an enhanced welfare state. We would move to a steady state economy for the wellbeing of all. And what changes do you want our government to make? The changes I want you to make are to act with urgency on the climate crisis, the accelerating destruction of the natural world, and wealth redistribution. Please support the increase of taxation on the income and wealth of the rich to pay for the much needed improvements in all of our public services, and to pay for a Green New Deal for carbon neutral infrastructures and full employment in a more circular and steady state economy. Please also support much needed political reforms such as proportional representation, use of citizens' assemblies, the banning of corrupt lobbying as well as fossil fuel subsidies and the development of fossil fuels.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? The fact is our politicians are not there to bring about good outcomes for the well-being of citizens. Solutions are not solving the crisis we have in our local and global worlds. They seem to think they are there to reach their own goals not what is needed for a healthy fruitful society. We need to build organisations and structures that keep people on track to reach these goals and not have power that leads to negative outcomes. Surely we should be giving empowerment to people who have these goals and be able to influence them when they don't get right. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? A society that finds each child a precious being to be cared for and loved. At present we let people die as if life is expendable. Look at Gaza. And what changes do you want our government to make? To build structures that cannot be broken and deliver positive results. To tackle the really important issues of the day, solve problems, and plan for the long-term future. To learn how to take people with them. So make people think they are capable of being leaders but to weed out people who are incapable of good leadership, to reduce poor outcomes. To stop them posturing at the house of parliament and use structures that lead to open debate and practical solutions. Equality and fairness at the base of it all. Name: Ceri

What are the main issues you are concerned about? War in Palestine. War in Ukraine. Tax avoidance by the rich (and large corporations), alongside use of the UK banking system, London residences and nominal non-profit orgs that allow wealthy criminals and dictators to use the UK as a base for money laundering or as part of a wider wealth concealment scheme. Preservation, improvement, and modernisation, of the NHS. Although I've said what I want, or need, to, the 100-word requirement means I need to add this in order to provide the extra words. It might be an idea to allow people to use fewer words in order to avoid this. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? One in which someone's birth situation (and parental wealth) is not the main contributor to their future life outcomes. (This is a bit vague on my part but would be a main thing to aim for. It's the driving reason behind the suggestion below, although it's debatable how it would be executed - the previous and subsequent questions imply I might be being requested to present something a politician could implement, or at least work towards, but is also open to a very utopian answer) Although I've said what I want, or need, to, the 100-word requirement means I need to add this in order to provide the extra words. And what changes do you want our government to make? A more long-term, and less self-interested, approach to society, introducing greater tax fairness. Possibly reviewing the approaches in use in Scandinavian countries to investigate possible approaches to greater income equality and self-reported happiness, and some way to work towards this. There is a possibility that some reform of aspects of the parliamentary system may help but it's unclear whether that's what's being requested (unless it's reframed as wanting politicians to modify the system that the operate within). Although I've said what I want, or need, to, the 100-word requirement means I need to add this in order to provide the extra words.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? 1. Climate change and the need to curb our excess consumption to create a more sustainable society. 2. Create affordable housing in city centres using outdated shops and offices so that they are alive and not simply places to shop. 3. Actively encourage a more responsible, individual attitude to our personal health and well being. 4.Lobby for key services to be taken out of private ownership and owned and held accountable instead by the people who use them. 5. Reshape the education system so that vocational and practical subjects are prioritised. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? Fair, open, honest, respecting differences and rewarding both merit and hard work with everyone having access to clean air, clean water and open spaces to walk in. And what changes do you want our government to make? More open dialogue with voters about the world they live in and want to live in, not just allow big business, lobbyists or elite institutions to have their say. This will lead to greater policy transparency.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Climate change is top of my list of global issues that I am concerned about. I am also concerned about the ongoing power balance between rich and poor What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? In my ideal society there would be no wars and a much greater understanding between people from different races and backgrounds. And what changes do you want our government to make? Being more proactive about environmental issues. Funding local democracy rather than centralising power and failing to tax the wealthy. I would like independence for Scotland, too Name: Patrick

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Fruitful connections that form bridges between people and planet, between generations genders and races Preventing demonisation of groups in society. Developing the ability to feel appreciative and generous with our resources not paranoid and protective. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? Stronger local communities that find ways to listen to those with less voice as well. One where soul wealth creators, gardeners musicians poets and visionaries are valued alongside financial wealth creators. All these things valued for there contribution to our collective well being rather than looking up to winners. A society where we feel connected to other countries and accept that we should not prioritise our needs for nature clean air etc at the expense of other countries and people. One that values a rich inner life as being the source of our life together. And what changes do you want our government to make? Facilitating conversations, encouraging genuine thinking rather than simply trying to polarise and win. taxing for health equality education and environmental justice leading the way on sustainable development green economy and making necessary progress to zero carbon. Supporting car share, library of things, involving people in finding balance between freedom of speech and causing harms. Preventing poverty

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Climate change first and foremost, inequality, the lack of investment in public services, infrastructure and better integrated and cheap public transport. Access to and protection of nature. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? A more equal and caring society with affordable housing and good public services. Where children don’t live in poverty and people care for each other And what changes do you want our government to make? A complete review of the tax system to include increases on tax and property. A legal requirement for politicians to tell the truth. Increased investment in public services and infrastructure Name: Willy

What are the main issues you are concerned about? The Climate Emergency: Over use of fossil fuels. Reliance on personal transport. Consumerism and lack of alternatives to plastic packaging, especially in the food industry. The widening gap between the rich and the poor. Poor diets and inadequate meals that more people are enduring due to rise in the cost of living. increasing knife and drug crimes. Lack of community cohesiveness. The breakdown of the NHS. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? Fully integrated transport systems. Government legislation to curb the use of plastic packaging and funding to develop alternatives, especially in the food industry. A change in the culture of our society from mass consumerism to community focussed sufficiency. A basic living wage for all and decent housing. Free, accessible, efficient healthcare for all. And what changes do you want our government to make? Invest in research and development of alternatives to plastic. Lead by example in using public transport and greatly reducing travel by air. Lead in the design and build of eco friendly decent homes. Introduce a basic living wage for all. Support the NHS by encouraging training in their many services. Introduce training schemes and open up job opportunities to work within the NHS. Introduce compulsory work within NHS for the unemployed NOT enlistment in the armed forces. Work for peace, national and international, not conscripts sent to War.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? The climate crisis, the loss of biodiversity, wars - esp the Middle East and Ukraine and others such as Sudan, inequalities, pollution, plastic waste, conventional farming techniques, landfill/methane, global inequalities, factory farming, cruelty, gender, racism, ageism, disableism and other social inequalities, ecocide, nuclear power, big global corporations powers and abuses, inequalities of wealth. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? A sustainable society that prioritises the climate and protects people and the natural world for current and future generations. A country and a world where no one goes hungry where waste is minimised and where everyone is paid enough to live with decency. A world where big corporations power is curbed. And what changes do you want our government to make? Take climate change seriously and act on it - no more oil fields in the North Sea, nor coal mines. Tax oil at source, tax aircraft fuel, redistribute the wealth to retrofit all houses with good insulation and heat pumps. Increase benefits to all low-income people and children - abolish the two child ceiling (in England). Re-enter the EU. Get Russia and Ukraine to negotiate peace, get Israel and Palestine to negotiate peace too. Name: Amanda Root

What are the main issues you are concerned about? The funding of public services, as this is the best thing to do for 'levelling up'. Also for the economy. The environment -- reducing global warming, developing the green economy and exporting it, and ensuring that our towns and cities have well maintained trees and green spaces. Funding and education in the arts, as they brings creativity to the economy, and emotional health. Housing -- absolutely no one should be homeless. Mental health services -- we have the expertise to help people, so now is the time to fund it. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? Children from difficult backgrounds (eg violence, poverty) to get the chance to fulfil their potential. Nature given more importance. Planning laws to be much tougher, so the natural world and people's concerns are taken into account. Housing to be developed in empty buildings and on brownfield sites. Law and order to return to give people a sense of security. Health services to be revived. National services of any sort not to be run for profit by private companies. Fairness in every respect: the law, taxation, education, health. An end to the monarchy, which I believe fosters snobbery and the class system. And what changes do you want our government to make? I would like politicians to introduce proportional representation. Then I'd like them to think about what equality really means. The environment should be top of the agenda, and people should be supported with changing their lifestyles with grants. Maybe The Centre for Alternative Technology could work with politicians to make our way of living less destructive. I'd like to see politicians work on changing our culture: to stop seeing ourselves and wants as more important than the planet, to get rid of ageism, sexism, singleism etc, to address alcoholism and show it's not funny when people get drunk, to change our values so that success is not just monetary.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? 1). Housing needs significant reform. Landlords to be encouraged yet policed 2). The ridiculous drive to electrify transport is a technical nonsense. 3). The Uk produce 1% of global greenhouse gasses. Why dont we refuse to import goods from major polluters. 4). Food is probably the number 1 requirement after clean water. Yet our farmers are being almost dissuaded from growing food stuffs 5). Clean water, clean rivers and lakes. Proper sanctions for polluting water cos. Nationalising essential utilities What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? A fairer, more egalitarian one where service is recognised and rewarded. Educating children to respect their elders and lose their entitlement to everything they want Improved system of community orders to benefit society and punish wrong doers. Educate prisoners. And what changes do you want our government to make? Clear out all redundant legislation Reform political system. Introduce Proportional representation forcing compromise and removing polarity. Clean up their own act and start behaving like adults in House of Commons Respect democracy. Name: Bill O'Dell

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Mass extinction and climate change Governments not using their power for the benefit of ALL, especially the most vulnerable. Those with power of any kind tending to lose their humanity What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? One based on kindness, respect and awareness of the tendency to blame 'others' One where Citizens Assemblies, informed by facts, or the like are widely used to shape the actions of governments. One where the priority is towards cooperation, not competition And what changes do you want our government to make? To find ways/systems to stay human, humble, not to have power go to their heads... And then to listen to the quieter voices as well as the louder ones Name: Sally Jeffery

What are the main issues you are concerned about? The depletion of the natural world and the effect of climate change. The lack of urgency in prioritising changes in behaviour. Economic models based on continuous growth. Greed, corruption, egotism, lying, being increasingly dominant and oppressive controlling factors in most aspects of life. Progressive inequality. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? One which values equally any forms of work/creative expression which are fundamental to the health and wellbeing of its citizens. One which respects the living world and seeks to become an integral part of it rather than using or dominating it. One which values honesty and integrity. One which strives to be inclusive. One which is collegiate rather than hierarchical. And what changes do you want our government to make? Elevate principles of honesty, integrity and service in public life. Create policies for the environment and food & farming practice that are symbiotic and integrated. Policies created across government departments should be integrated and be considered wholistically rather than in isolation. Have a much broader, deeper understanding of education, that values all forms of creative expression and thinking, values physical, manual and academic work equally. Work should be fairly paid and workers respected. Restore water, energy, health service, justice ( including prisons and probationary service) and social services to public ownership and stop outsourcing to profit motivated companies. Name: Catherine Dornan

What are the main issues you are concerned about? I am concerned about the unaffordability of private rented housing and the lack of social housing. I think that the right to buy should be stopped immediately and an ambitious social house building push be started. It would be beneficial to large numbers of people currently living in insecure or substandard conditions. Health would improve if people didn’t have to worry about paying the rent rather than heating their homes. Better quality food would be affordable for more people. It is obvious to many that this would be a worthwhile investment in the future. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? I describe myself as having socialist values. I don’t think that it’s realistic to expect everyone to have the same views. My version of socialism involves housing at its heart with everyone having a comfortable decent place to live in which they are happy. Not just a roof over their heads. They should be able to afford to be warm and well fed and to enjoy life. People should be rewarded for any work they do but those that can’t work and those that choose not to work should be treated equally well in regards to housing and the necessities. And what changes do you want our government to make? Stop worrying about the national debt. No one really cares about the nation’s debt but rather about their own. Spend on ambitious projects like social home building, improving existing infrastructure and renationalising the stuff that is in such a dreadful state now. Utilities and transport are the obvious choice. Name: Kathryn

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Oligarchs and elites and wealthy control too many decisions without inputs from the rest of the human population - and those decisions made seem always designed to benefit those decision makers. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? Ecologically aware people who can and do participate in decision making and who listen and learn and organise to protect the environment and thereby steer society toward a better future. And what changes do you want our government to make? Reduce the influence of special interest groups on decision making while increasing the influence of those who are not organised into special interest groups - such special interest groups as corporations, state governments, foreign nations seeking only their own advantage, the wealthy, the elite, and the militaries of the world and their war mongers.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Climate change Biodiversity decline Pollution of oceans Unfettered power of tech platforms Global tax evasion Russian expansion Lack of control of online commenting Conspiracy mindsets Dominance of intensive livestock farming in food chains What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? Kind Universal rights are underpinned by funding from taxation Left-wing politically All policies take account of their impact on nature and climate And what changes do you want our government to make? Renationalise drinking water, sewage, public transport and Royal Mail. Restore local authority funding. Introduce carbon taxes Restore publicly funded dentistry Stamp out tax evasion Restore SEN funding in education Create a traceable e-licence for anyone wishing to email or post digitally

What are the main issues you are concerned about? My main concerns that I wish you to act on are: Maintaining UK commitment to the Paris Summit 2015 pledge on global warming limit 1.5C. All strategic environmental policy making to totally support this commitment; especially the cessation of all fossil fuel exploration, development and phase out of all existing fossil fuel based energy production by 2050. No new development of nuclear energy projects, diversion of all available funds to achieve optimum investment in green energy and transport technology development. Biodiversity gain in all national agricultural, infrastructure and urban planning. Commitment to the Biodiversity Net Gain initiative. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? My ideal society would be an inclusive one where the needs and care for the sick, elderly and disadvantaged would be prioritised and adequately funded. Where no child’s education, health and social development are prejudiced by lack of money! Where discrimination against people based on race, religion, cultural heritage or gender is totally outlawed by clear, legislative action. Total adherence to UN human rights and refugee treatment charters. There is more than enough financial resource at UK government disposal to meet these objectives. A more equitable distribution of wealth and a less divisive fiscal system which prioritises these aims are totally achievable. And what changes do you want our government to make? The changes I want politicians to make are to promote proportional representation to give a more balanced and truly representative basis for our national democracy. All parliamentary roles including the House of Lords to be based on a democratic election process. These roles to reflect their level of service and value to the national community, not based on party political preferences, business or other personal achievements. Health and education, at all ages, to be fully funded and totally supported by economic policy which harnesses the collective experience and skills of the voluntary sector as a coordinated partnership. There is currently a major disconnect between the two.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Inequality. ethnocentrism and resource depletion. There is a lack of clarity of attitudes to global issues from confined polities (state, bloc, empire). Is it the West before the Rest? What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? Supportive, constructive, creative and modest in ambition. Ethical and accountable business practices. Well-being index as metric of progress. Big Data removed from communications. And what changes do you want our government to make? All governments to co-operate and agree limits of growth. Local governments (e.g. UK) to strive for global restraint on unfettered capitalism. Political reform, PR (STV), Citizens Assemblies. Decarbonise and nationalise utilities and natural monopolies.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Climate change, war, inequality, poverty, homelessness, lack of affordable housing, privatisation, fascism, media bias, corrupt and undemocratic political system, bigotry and racism, culture wars, lack of spending on public services (austerity), dishonest and self interested political and media class-CORRUPTION. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? Power and wealth distributed equally throughout society, zero growth economics more in line with people’s needs than corporate profits, and ecologically sustainable. Non-hierarchical organisation of society- power from the bottom up, true democracy. A society where no one lives in poverty, no one is homeless and people have control over their own lives. And what changes do you want our government to make? Government needs to get out of the way, the current system is not in any way democratic. Voting never changes anything, politics is corrupted by money, big money always wins over the needs of the people. The next government could change the system to proportional representation, abolish the Monarchy and House of Lords, immediately start redistributing wealth through taxation (and borrowing/quantitive easing if necessary), hugely increasing public spending. Stop funding wars and the military, abolish nuclear weapons, stop supporting tyrannical regimes abroad, condemn/prosecute war crimes no matter who commits them. Massively increasing spending on green infrastructure, reverse privatisation, make elections and election campaigns publicly funded, start to introduce direct democracy.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Lack of sensitivity to others; lacking love compassion, empathy; unaware of the mere presence of others. Immersion and self-interest and the customs--bread and circuses Greed and hunger for power and fame.People are blind outside of their chosen news feeds and entertainment programming; they are unaware of others and their needs or view them as deserving of their lot. Inflexibility understood as right. Poverty, lack of opportunity in economic, educational, and health spheres. Climate change and the need for adaptation, as we have passed the 1.5-degree target and the Atlantic overturning current, is failing. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? Egalitarian Non-tribal Enlightened/compassionate Ecologically aware Economically equitable Equal access to Health services Democratic-everyone has a voice and knows how to use it Government support for ecological adaptation and relocation And what changes do you want our government to make? Guaranteed minimum income, and universal access to education and health care. Economic incentives to move from coastal areas. Economic incentives to transition from polluting energy use at all levels. Create circular and environmentally informed work opportunities for coal, oil, and gas workers. Use AI to design new approaches. Tax the rich Name: richard gray

What are the main issues you are concerned about? We need a congruent strategy on the environment. This needs to be cross party and long-term not something that swings with electoral mood. Similarly, the NHS is fundamentally broken. We need a long-term strategic plan for healthcare. It needs to be bold and it needs to challenge the fixedness of the current system. We need to stop just thinking about quantitative data, but start to give qualitative assessment equal value. Stop exclusively thinking about big business and recognize there are an army of small businesses in the UK that we risk losing. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? ideally society would work for the common good, whilst also empowering individuals to use their skills and energies. People would be helped to contribute to society as a whole and wellbeing, enriching culture and fulfillment should be valued as highly as earning. People should be able to retire well and live sustainably. Enterprise, initiative and creativity should be valued within this (and the individuals should be suitably rewarded) but they should work in harmony with society, the environment, their employees and the local community. And what changes do you want our government to make? We need to move beyond a two party election system. PR is one option but maybe something even better could be created that gives people more than the illusion of democracy, but where people are informed (not just steered by politicians or the media) - possibly based around citizen assemblies/juries. We need a long-term strategic approach with deep thinking and boldness, but with the common good at its heart. Support small businesses, get rid of IR35, it is abhorrent that self-employed people are now forced to work for big consultancies. The government should be able to work with smaller entities to grow local knowledge.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? Maintaining UK commitment to the Paris Summit 2015 pledge on global warming limit 1.5C. Health and education, at all ages, to be fully funded and totally supported by economic policy which harnesses the collective experience and skills of the voluntary sector as a coordinated partnership. There is currently a major disconnect between the two.

What are the main issues you are concerned about? There are so many concerns it’s hard to know where to start. Climate change is definitely a concern, the impression I am given through Parliamentary debate and media coverage is that this is not at all an important issue to our UK politicians. Issues around high levels of homelessness, and the seeming reluctance to support or remedy this issue. Mouldy housing stock supplied by local authorities is a grave concern and now appears to be killing women. Children with little regard given from all members of parliament. immigration policies also concerned me gravely, but capture my attention. Key political figures appear to disregard that these are issues of being human. What kind of society would you prefer to be living in? I would like to see a world that feels more equal. I desire the world to be on a level playing field, the reality is that it is not as likely. The dialogue coming from Parliamentary figures seems to encourage a divide between citizens instead of a resolution through policy. A world where the planet is treated well, and fairly good, also help to resolve the armrest that is sometimes felt in the world at large, let alone the UK. And what changes do you want our government to make? A new political way to give us our best hope for a better future. It would involve MPs thinking differently about resolve current issues. Having conversations and debates in Parliament that make an impact. Taking up the very issues that constituents write and email about. Less of the bickering, backbiting and tearing down of views. The Citizens’ Mandate for Change can transform society, based on your leadership, and drive to make more positive changes throughout the fabric of the United Kingdom (and beyond). For most of my life I’ve worked professionally in ‘change’, designing interventions that worked in complex systems like organisations. Since retiring I’ve been researching the biggest problems we face, including the climate crisis. Over the last couple of years, I’ve read over 150 books by some of our finest thinkers on the problems we face and the best way forward. This book summarises the best thinking we have.

We have solutions, and we can afford them, but we lack the ‘political will’. This book explores a form that political will can take as the voice of the people. The Citizens’ Mandate gives us that collective voice. If enough people use it and spread it, we can change things.

We’ll look at the main crises we face, nearly all man made, and their fundamental causes. We explore the workings of the economic and political systems and the changes we need to make while there is still time. We cover how the spreading of the Citizens’ Mandate can trigger these changes, and how nothing less than a global transformation can unfold.

This transformation can lead to a better quality of life for more people whilst preserving the wellbeing of the natural systems of the planet which sustain us. It is ultimately a message of hope, perhaps our greatest hope. You will be the judge of that, and on your thoughts and actions our future depends.
