About this project
The aim of the Citizens’ Mandate for Change project is nothing less than to change the world before we are overwhelmed by the problems we have created. Go to the home page to find out more.
Our global systems are exceedingly resistant to any major change, and they have locked us into a path which leads to civilisation collapse.
The combined efforts of millions have so far not found a way of making a significant difference.
The Citizens’ Mandate for Change is an entirely new kind of intervention. Although it may seem obvious, it has never been tried before.
We believe that, with your support, the Citizens’ Mandate has the power to change everything. Little else can.
This website, and the accompanying book, explains how. It is a compelling message of hope for a world in a situation which can seem hopeless. Enjoy your exploration, nourish hope, and take action.
For together, we can change the world.
And we must.
About John, Sarah and Mike
We are just three people, but between us we have over 100 years’ of experience in creating successful change in complex systems by designing highly effective interventions.
John Seymour
John is a recognised expert in change consultancy. Stafford Beer was his mentor in systems thinking when John specialised in the Viable Systems Model and applying it to organisational change. His bestselling book Introducing Neuro Linguist Programming went into 14 languages and sold over a million copies. With two honorary trainerships in NLP, he is the only person to have been appointed National Tutor for NLP in Further and Higher Education in the UK. Over four decades John worked with thousands of individuals and hundreds of organisations including many of the best known in education, health and business. He specialised in individual change, organisational change, and culture change. John currently works on the Citizens’ Mandate for Change project with the book and website as his contribution to addressing the overwhelming global problems we face.
Sarah Smith
Sarah is a psychologist, researcher, coach and consultant with over 25 years’ experience in developing individuals, leaders, teams and organisations. She has designed and led international executive education and corporate programmes, taught at post- and under-graduate levels, and presented at international conferences. A driving question behind her research over the last few years has been ‘why do we collectively produce results nobody wants so much of the time?’ Her studies focus on the psychology of wisdom and she is engaged in doctoral research into this area at The University of Lincoln. This informs her thinking; she brings a deep understanding of the challenges of being human into her work with clients. Sarah is a recognised expert in her field and has contributed chapters on coaching, wisdom, ethics, and adult development to landmark practitioner handbooks.
Mike Leigh
Following a successful career as an RAF officer, Mike embarked on a second career when he became a chartered psychologist. After being a director of a consultancy, and a senior manager in a large organisation, he joined the Brunel Institute of Organisational and Social Studies. Since then his abiding interest has been based on the connections between work, organisations, and people. An underlying theme of his work has been how managers use their judgement when engaging with the complexity of work in their organisations, and in their environment. Working at up to board level Mike is recognised as an expert practitioner in his field. His experience spans a wide range of organisations including finance, manufacturing, construction, and retail, both in the UK and internationally.
